My Lord, if You should Show me that which they are Promised, then, my Lord, do not Place me among the Wrongdoing People

A duʿā from Sūrah Al-Muʾminūn in which the Prophet ﷺ is instructed to seek protection from being among the wrongdoing people if punishment is shown.

رَبِّ إِمَّا تُرِيَنِّي مَا يُوعَدُونَ
رَبِّ فَلَا تَجْعَلْنِي فِي الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,
then, my Lord, do not place me among the wrongdoing people.

Rabbi immā turiyannī mā yūʿadūn,
rabbi fa-lā tajʿalnī fī al-qawmi al-ẓālimīn.

Context

Teaches seeking protection even from situations one may witness
Encourages distancing oneself from wrongdoing and its people
Reflects awareness of divine punishment and accountability
Combines caution with reliance upon Allāh

Benefits

Teaches the believer to seek protection not only from wrongdoing but from proximity to its consequences
Reflects a heightened God-consciousness — awareness of divine accountability even when witnessing others' punishment
Models the prophetic instinct to immediately turn to Allah in moments of confrontation with trial or tribulation
Demonstrates that duʿāʾ can be expressed as a conditional plea — seeking refuge in anticipation rather than only in the midst of harm
Cultivates a deep sense of dissociation from wrongdoing and its people, rooted in humility rather than self-righteousness
